dead ghost cat || dankedanke & James Lowry
here’s some sound art that I did with my friend James. I wouldn’t call it a song because there’s really no structure and it’s meant to be as atmospheric and disjointed as possible.
I actually had to take breaks while mixing this because it was too unsettling to listen to on repeat.
The name comes from me trying to explain how I wanted James to play the piano. After about 3 minutes of failing to come up with words, he stopped me and said, “You want me to play like a dead ghost cat is walking on the keys.”

beautifully cascading sounds from the volume settings folder. Definitely check out more of this work.

Here’s a new track off of Steps. This was actually the first song recorded for the album. It’s a bunch of clips from multiple songs I have recorded and discarded in the past that I put together into something I actually liked.

My new release Steps is out today!
Steps is a collection of songs that were pieced together with field recordings and samples. The recording process involved processing the samples and then layering and looping them during improv sessions. This left me with a few different versions of each song. Presented are the pieces that I felt had the best sonic qualities. Hanging_deadspace and Hanging_floating were both recorded using the same samples and the same processing.
This release has been more about learning to process samples, and how to explore darker atmospheres. More importantly, it was about exploring sound from an abstract mindset, and less about creating a song.
Samples used:
It’s All Right - music box tines, wind
Hanging_deadspace - compactor unit, door chimes, dryer unit
Hanging_floating - compactor unit, door chimes, dryer unit
null - melodica, room noise
Past the Aperture - piano, organ, room noise, cello

Steps will be out later this week

Cover art I just put together for Steps which is a 5 piece EP that I’m finishing up at the moment.
It will consist of mostly dark ambient drone, but it has it’s brighter moments.
Franco Olesen approached me to use my music for his documentary he is shooting. It’s not a normal documentary, though. It’s a documentary with a lot of heart and a lot of emotion behind it.
From his website:
My mother was diagnosed with Leukemia in July of 2011. I started filming her just so I could have some memories for the future. But when things started to look grim, I decided to start putting clips together into a film. This is the most important thing I’ve ever done. I love my Mum with all my heart, and I’m putting all my passion into this film.
I feel honored to be a part of this project. I honestly think it’s going to break me in some way to hear my music being being used for something greater than just creation. I have a ton of respect for Franco, and his project. I hope for the best for him, and I’m very proud to be even a small part of this project.
Please go and check out his website, and like his page on facebook if you’d like to be kept up to date on the movie. I’ll be sure to post updates about it when more come around.

It’s All Right || dankedanke
Here’s a song I recorded today. I made it by placing a small stereo microphone in front of a music box I got at a shop. I then processed the recordings in ableton and did an improv session on a launchpad.
And wouldn’t mind recording (whatever quality of recording, laptop microphones/answering machines/whatever) and sending to me?
I’m working on a small release based on spoken word over shifting backgrounds.
Slam poetry, poetry, short stories (I mean, told in under 3-4 minutes short) are all welcome. Any performance dynamism works as well (monotone, dramatic, absurd)
Send me a line at dankedankewelt@gmail.com and lemme know if you’re interested! Or, alternately, if you know someone who might be interested please pass my info along to them!
Thanks everyone!

Short improvisational piece I did with my friend earlier today. Processing on an on-the-fly piano piece.
Hanging_Floating || dankedanke
Did some re-working of Hanging [Take 1] earlier tonight. It takes a little while to get going, but I’m happy with how it is turning out.

This is a song I made with processed field recordings. It’s part of a 3 song EP that I’ll be releasing through The Subterranea Collective
